Meet the founder
Hi! I’m Dominique, a queer singer, songwriter and musician. I started writing songs when I was 7 years old and from an early age music felt like a way to connect more deeply to myself and the world around me. I truly believe that we can all tap into our inner selves, follow (and achieve) our dreams, connecting with why we are truly here.
Alongside music, I studied Sport Science and Nutrition at university and have always been extremely interested in the impact our lifestyle, especially our daily routine, has on our wellbeing. In my final year of study, I was diagnosed with ME (chronic fatigue syndrome), depression and also suffered an injury from football which I absolutely loved to play. Despite this, I still wanted to explore my lifelong dream of working in music, however unstable or risky that may have seemed.
Over many years of my health being very up and down, I found that a combination of rituals within my daily routine (which continue to evolve) dramatically improved my symptoms, overall wellbeing and happiness. I felt healthier, more like myself again - maybe for the first time ever. Music, movement, nutrition, art, spiritual practices and other mindful tools helped me to rebuild my confidence and reconnect back to me.
Alongside this journey, my music continues to be placed across the globe on TV, including Netflix, Amazon Prime, Sky, Showtime and the BBC which I still can’t quite believe and I’ve performed around the world. I release music under my artist name DMNIQ where I continue to explore my artistry as authentically as I can and release songs and perform live shows. I have also more recently discovered how deeply I love teaching and helping others access their own voice through the beautiful power of music.
Wanting to bring everything together, I felt called to create a space that incorporates both my love for music and wellbeing, helping people reconnect to the truest parts of themselves through creative channels, and supporting them to build consistency through daily routines to improve overall health. This is where the seedling for Roots Of You was born.
Roots Of You is a space to share and explore these practices further, in the hope of helping others reconnect back to themselves. Thank you for joining! I hope you find something just right for you here. Welcome.
